The Chairman of the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration Mr. Ihor Hundych met the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Ukraine H.E. Mr. Juha Virtanen. The meeting was held on 09 April, with participation of Zhytomyr City Mayor Mr. Serhii Sukhomlyn, as well as representatives of companies with Finnish capital.
“We have close trade links – last year we increased export of textiles and import of paper to Finland. But, unfortunately, we do not have Finnish investments in the region. Therefore, we are ready to cooperate, so that there will be enterprises in the Zhytomyr region with Finnish capital. We work closely with investors, it is important for us if an investor is ready to work, pay taxes and create jobs” Mr. Hundych said.
According to Mr. Ambassador, currently Finland supports the New Ukrainian School – EUR 6 million for 4 years. Another important area of cooperation is the support for energy saving projects, in particular through the NEFCO fund, with which Zhytomyr collaborates on modernizing pre-school institutions.
The participants of the meeting discussed ways of further cooperation. Representatives of the companies “Orion Pharma” (pharmaceutical company) and “Kargotek Ukraine” Ltd. (delivery of truck equipment) told about possible joint projects on the territory of the region.
As a result of the meeting, a mini-forum with representatives of Finnish companies will be held in the near future to review their proposals, provide them with information on possible areas of cooperation with the Zhytomyr region.
